Teahouse
A Non-Profit Site for Chinese in the San Francisco Bay Area
What could be more comforting than a cup of tea and a chat with old friends from home? If those friends can answer some of your difficult questions, or at least tell you where to find the answers, well, that's almost like being home.
Or are you craving for good Chinese dim sum? Curious about the historical significance of Angel Island? Interested in learning more about Chinese culture and traditions? Hopefully by having some of our tea, you'll find the information you need.
Join us at the Teahouse, a social outreach program at St. Mary's that focuses on issues related to the Chinese-American community in the Bay Area. You will find friendly experts who can :
•Brew you a pot of tea.
•Talk about home.
•Answer questions about this crazy new homeland.
•Tell some history about when people came here and what they have done.
•Give you names of restaurants, social service, legal service and health service agencies.
•Tell you about churches and temples where they speak your dialect.
This program is sponsored by St. Mary's Chinese Center. St. Mary's Chinese Center has been a presence in San Francisco's Chinatown since 1903. We were founded to provide social assistance, English language classes, counseling programs, and support networks to new immigrants. Teahouse is our way of extending that tradition and service.
Teahouse is the recipient of a three year grant from the Chinese Community Health Care Association for further development of its needed expertise in combating domestic violence and addictive gambling.
St. Mary's has a rich and colorful history. Perhaps you have heard of our world famous Drum and Bell Corps or have seen our sports teams compete across the state. We are currently working on some wonderful plans for a new home since we outgrew our building years ago. Best of all, come visit our tea house when you are in San Francisco. We'd love to get to know our neighbors in the global village.
